Leanna's Winding Path

Hi friends. Thanks for checking in on me. I thought this would be a good place to share with you the details about my journey in this life. I hope to keep it simple and honest.

I love you.

20 February 2011 – The next installment.

How long has it been?

Well, I finally met with the doctors this last week, Hendricks on Thursday, Gagnon on Friday.

Prior to the visits, it was a bit of a hard week.  I had some very strange symptoms or side effects that scared the heck out of me and Herb.  I’m okay now, and have been for days, but these last two weeks of waiting for interpretations of my scans and dealing with strange symptoms was harrowing.

I could go into a lot of detail, but I’ll just tell you what’s changing.  I don’t qualify for the clinical trial because I am still on steroids.  My body treatment is changing anyhow:  I’m going from Herceptin to Herceptin plus Tycurb (sp?).  Not really looking forward to this.  I’ve been delaying it for months because I’ve been so comfortable on Herceptin alone.  Hopefully the side effects are manageable.  I’ve also started a new prescription that is supposed to help eliminate necrotic material in the body – no studies of it used to eliminate necrotic tissue in the brain, but hey, we’re gonna give it a try.  And it looks like I have another tumor in the brain (in the temporal region) that we’re going to treat with cyberknife.  Not certain about this yet, but I’m sure we’ll know later this week.

I know it sounds like a lot, but Herb and I are carrying on just fine.  Today he went for a bike ride and I went for a hike.  It was a really wonderful day.  We’re staying upbeat and are grateful that we have options.  We’re also grateful that we have friends.  Our friends are such a critical part of our coping with all of this.  But we’re also really capable of leaning on each other too.  We are so lucky to have each other.

We’re planning a trip to New Orleans in June with the wonderful Jay and Di.  I don’t know how difficult it will be to for me to fly, as the last two flights I took, I almost had to cancel due to technical difficulties in the brain.  So Herb and I are turning it into a long-ass drive.  We’ve always loved road tripping together, so that’s what we’re going to do.

Anyhow, it took me a couple of days to chill and to process, but I wanted to get this information up as soon as possible.  I know the act of anticipating news and not getting any is pretty annoying, so I wanted to pass on the information…..in case you were waiting.
