Leanna's Winding Path
Hi friends. Thanks for checking in on me. I thought this would be a good place to share with you the details about my journey in this life. I hope to keep it simple and honest.
I love you.

3 October 2011 – My adventures with Who’s That Girl
I went shopping yesterday. I had to buy Who’s That Girl some clothes because it’s getting cold and none of my warm clothes fit her. So I decided to go to Goodwill because they have a 50% off sell on Sundays and because I don’t want to invest a lot of money buying clothes for her. Like I’ve said before, I hope she’ll be gone by Christmas.
So, Sunday turns out to be a big day. It’s the day of the bike swap that Herb and Jay have organized. Herb and I get up early to get there so he can begin setting up. My plan is to just hang out in the coffee shop while the swap is going on. The swap is over at 1, then it’s time to clean up. I have this expectation that I’ll be able to go to Goodwill while I still have energy and am all hopped up on caffeine. But then, friends that we haven’t seen in a while ask us to join them for lunch. So of course, we do.
We finished lunch a little after 3. At this point, I’m super tired from getting up super early, from being full, and from sitting on my tush all day. Herb keeps asking “Are you sure you want to go to Goodwill today.” I keep saying, “No I don’t want to go. I’m tired. I’d rather go home. But I have to. It’s getting cold and Who’s That Girl really needs some warm clothes, especially pants.”
“OK,” he says.
So we go.
The carts are sparse. One of the staff finds us a cart. It has a baby seat on it. That’s fine.
We browse through the pants. It’s hard to shop for Who’s That Girl because she doesn’t even know what size she is. We find about 9 pairs of pants that we hope might fit, but she has to try them on because I don’t want to buy stuff will need to be thrown out the next day.
Trying on clothes was an ordeal for Who’s That Girl. Her balance is so bad she has to sit down each time she puts on or takes a pair of pants off. Herb even has to help pull them off because it’s easier, since she really isn’t flexible enough to do the job herself. So getting through the pants takes a while. She picked a few pairs that were too small, but found 3 or 4 that she really liked. So far, so good.
Then we moved on so she could look for warm shirts. She tries to hurry in picking out the ones she might like to buy because she knows that I’m tired and ready to go home, but Goodwill has tons of shirts and they are not organized very well, so this takes a while.
Of course, she has to try on the shirts too. This takes a bit longer because there are a lot more shirts to try on than there were pants. While in the dressing room, someone put a bunch of clothes in our cart. They thought it was the thing to do to empty the cart they were snagging. She didn’t realize that the cart with the baby seat belonged to Who’s That Girl. It wasn’t a big deal, it’s just it was clear that Goodwill was having cart issues on this 50% off Sunday.
Finally, she gets through the pile of shirts. She decides not to get most of them because they don’t fit. Several are too small in the shoulders or at the boobs or are too short. Her boobs are huge. What size are those anyway? An E or a D at least. Whatever it is, it’s way too big. I much prefer my smaller, perky boobs.
We’ve been at Goodwill for almost two hours and it’s time to check out. The total for everything is a little over $13. I’m amazed. That’s extremely cheap, even for 50% off Sunday. Then I start to think, “Hey, I didn’t see her ring up the pants.” I asked the cashier “Did you ring up pants?”
“No pants.”
What! That was the whole point of this trip. Who’s That Girl can always fit into Herb’s shirts if necessary, but she really needs pants. Where the heck did the pants go?
I ask the staff person if they pulled them out to put out of our cart and put them away. She says she didn’t. The pants are lost to us. We have no idea where they went.
What a waste of time! Feeling tired and emotional, we’re both so upset by the waste of time and energy spent that we start crying. Neither of us like shopping, and we’re going to have to do this all over again because Who’s That Girl really needs some pants. How frustrating!
I’ll be happier when Who’s That Girl finally leaves. She’s become a good friend, but I feel sorry for her all the time. Things are so tough for her to do. It’s hard and pretty annoying to see her struggle with everything. Then she’s always complaining about how she looks. I try to be patient with her, but it’s tough. Things will just be better when she has moved out. I’m really hoping that will be by Christmas. We’ll see.
